Reflecting on midterm

In the beginning of the term I was nervous because art is my weakest subject, but now it is one of my best subjects. Even though I may not be that great I put in all the effort into my work and always have been trying my best. Especially with our sculpture project I really tried my hardest and ended up taking a plastic green circle and a circuit board and taking some other objects, and turning them into a toilet. This shows that I have become better at seeing something in something so little. Also with our line story, I took some people and some monkey and turned it into the rainforest with a conflict between poachers and the enviromentalists. Last in the middle of the term with soccer games and missing some class I fell behind slightly but I was able to use my x-block well and pulled through and got the work done.

Whats in the bag?

In your own words, describe what the goals for today's drawing were. How well did you achieve these goals? Give specific examples from your process and/or from the finished drawing. You might even describe what challenges you faced.

The goals for todays drawing were to be able to see which bags were which in the drawing, what was in the bags, and the color and reflection of each bag. I achieved these goals pretty well and almost did a pretty decent job. Some challenges I faced were the time we had to work and trying to show the lines reflecting on the bags.

The work of Ingrid Calame

Our pour paintings seem very familiar to this.
1. She's an artist that takes things in the real life and turns it into art. Just like we've been doing for the past week.
2. She makes this type of art because when she was a kid she wanted make and draw maps. Instead she makes amazing masterpieces much like maps but of the hidden things she see's in the real life.
3. This picture reminds me of hands and branches of trees mangled together, also the colors are very well mixed together and are very creative. This picture also reminds me of my pour painting because of the different shapes and spatters in it.

Reflecting on the first full week

All of these activities in some way have restictions, for example in the still life we couldn't actually draw the objects. While with the postcard activity you could only write them directions and not tell them what it is. These 2 activities were the most confusing of all the activities and caused the most frustration.

Changing still life

Today in art class we drew a changing still life with charcoal. To keep up with the changing still life you had to always be ready to erase fast and draw without thinking of the out come but of how you can keep up with the drawing. Also you had to be able to sketch the drawing very fast. Last you had to be able to see the difference of the erased drawings and the drawings that you were drawing at the time.

Found objects

What is it about objects or parts of objects that gives them the potential to become a part of a sculpture like the ones you see below. In other words how or why did the artists choose the objects they did? Use specific examples from the pictures below
They choose different objects because of what they see when they put them together into art. For example the bird thaat was made of glass or plastic. That bird was made of just random bits and the artist was able to make it into and amazing bird.

Reflecting on my first critique

On your blog describe BOTH the positive AND critical feedback you got on your story collage/drawing during the critique today. Then answer the following question...How did it feel to get feedback from your classmates today?
It felt weird because I haven't got a chance to really change my story, and the people in my group didn't really understand my picture even though it was very simple. It was basically two sides fighting against one another. People thought that my idea of the Ghandi like figure was good, yet they felt that it was to random and confusing.
